Education is what people do to you and learning is what you do to yourself... need to learn is how to learn. Are you actually practicing this in your learning environment? Why or why not?
I actually do my best to learn as much as I can and I create a learning environment for my kiddos. I encourage my students to ask questions and I am not afraid to say "I don't know... let's look it up". I like to lead by example. I don't want my students to just take everyone else's words for everything. I encourage questions and inquiry.
Are you flexible? Is your school flexible enough to allow teachers to be innovative and to experiment with blended learning or other ways to use technology to enhance learning?
I like to think that i am VERY flexible. I am always open, ready, and willing to change things up and disrupt my teaching. I get bored so I figure my students get bored. I like change... I thrive on it! I even move my desks around once every month or so. I am also very flexible with my teaching. I am always looking for new ways to teach things, or different ways to present the same material.
My administrators are pretty flexible as well. They are all very open to suggestions and are genuinely interested in bringing the students and school to the 21st century. When I told them what this master's was in and gave them a brief intro to what I am doing, they were VERY intrigued. They are always inviting teachers to introduce and present new ideas during staff meetings. I feel that they would be very willing to find ways to implement blended learning in to our school.
Are you committed to having kids really use technology? Are your colleagues able to commit to using the technology?
I am definitely ready to have students using technology in a more purposeful way. I believe in preparing my students for the future, and technology IS the future. Our students need to learn to use technology in order to prepare them for life. If we ignore and turn our noses up to the use of technology, we are foing a disservice to our students and we are hurting them. I believe that 4 out of the other 5 teachers on my team would be willing to jump on the tech band wagon with me, and I am positive that there are many more in my school that would be ready to make this leap.
