I was very nervous about taking this course when I read what the assignments were going to be. I struggled with knowing that I was going to write an article with the hopes of getting it published, and I needed to create a media pitch.

For the first assignment, I was instructed to create an outline for a article/journal that I intend to publish based on my innovation plan. My innovation plan is is to integrate a blended learning station rotation into my classroom, with the hopes to eventually integrate my plan campus-wide.

My innovation plan is a very broad subject, and I wanted to be more specific for my publication. I also wanted to write about something I do and wanted to share with the world. I decided to write an article on how to start a blended learning book club in an elementary literacy classroom.
To help me with planning my journal I needed to create an outline. I used the outline to aid me in organizing my thoughts and to stay on track. It gives a brief snapshot of the ideas I have for my publication.

After completing the outline, the next step toward becoming published was to design a rough draft. The big question now was where I wanted to attempt to publish my article. I was throwing around a few different journals and websites. I chose to submit my article to Edutopia. Using the guidelines for publication set forth my Edutopia, I created my rough draft that I shared with my peer group for feedback/feedforward. By sharing my rough draft with my peer group, I was able to get some helpful ideas on how to improve my article.

The next step in the process was to design a media pitch that gives a glimpse of what my article is about. I wanted to spark my audiences interest to read my article about blended learning book clubs. For my media pitch I created a video and uploaded it to my eportfolio. Here is my media pitch.

After creating my media pitch and writing the rough draft of my journal, I had to take all of the feedback and feed forward and revise my rough draft to create a final draft that I plan to submit for publication. The end game of this course is to become a published author, and the article I created is my chance to do this. To read the final draft of my article, click this button here.

This course took me out of my comfort zone and challenged me beyond what I thought it would. I would never have attempted to even think about becoming a published author if it was not for this course. Planning and creating this article for publication has given me the drive and desire to become that academic author. I plan to publish this and many many more articles!
I hope that when other educators read my published article, they will get excited about starting blended learning book clubs in their very own classrooms. I hope the steps I provide to them help them to realize it can work for them, too.
