Creating a BHAG was a bit of a struggle for me. I couldn't decide between creating a BHAG for a certain course, a specific unit, or one for the educators that I want to join me in my innovation plan journey. I chose to create it, along with my 3 Column Table, about the process educators will go through to implement blended learning into their own classrooms. When using station rotation blended learning in an elementary setting, it is important for educators to have support from other teachers. It is also crucial for all of those educators to be on the same page and following the same basic ideas.

Fink discusses the importance of creating learning goals before the lessons are ever planned. As stated by Fink (n.d.), "after you have gathered information about the situational factors, your first decision is about the learning goals" (p. 4). He speaks of a backward design. This is something that I have always done when creating my own lessons. You have to look at the outcome you desire and go from there. That has to be your starting point. If the lessons you are creating are not leading you toward the end goal, you need to stop, re-assess, and rethink your delivery and content.

Fink (n.d.) stated that you start with the learning goals, move on to feedback and assessment, then to the teaching/learning activities, and finally on to the integration.

I contemplated the following questions when I created my BHAG and 3 Column Table:

  1. What are my learning goals that I want my subject to accomplish in the end?

  2. How will I determine if they "got it" and what will I do to provide feedback? (feedback/assessment)

  3. What lessons or activities can I use that will be purposeful, impactful, and engaging?

  4. Is everything aligned and ready for integration?

As I thought about these questions, I also needed to decide what pieces of COVA (Choice, Ownership, and Voice through Authentic Learning) I wanted each teacher to utilize to implement a student-centered blended learning environment into their classrooms (Harapnuik, n.d., COVA).

In order to create the following document, I had to fill out worksheets to help with my thinking as I prepared for the lesson planning template 3 Column Table.

My BHAG:

Educators will create a student-centered learning environment through the use of a blended learning station rotation no less than twice weekly through the 2022-2023 school year.
