5315- Assess Digital Learning: An Action Research Plan

In the world of education, research is something that teachers should never stop doing. Teachers research so many things: everything from new ways to teach concepts to fun ways to decorate their rooms.  My innovation plan, which can be seen here, is on blended learning, which is a subject that has been studied, practiced, and researched for many years. For this class, I designed an action research study to be implemented in the year 2022-2023. The action research will be on the effects a blended learning station rotation has on elementary students' reading fluency and comprehension.

For this class, I completed an action research outline that I later used to create my action research plan, a literature review, and a final action research plan.

Action research starts with a planning stage, followed by the acting stage, the developing stage, and finally the reflecting stage (Mertler, 2016). So far, I am still in the planning stage and plan to move in to the acting stage immediately after the school year begins. In the planning stage, I completed the first 4 steps of an action research plan as mentioned by Mertler (2016) as follows:

  1. I identified my topic.

      2. I gathered as much information as I could find for now.

           3. I completed a literature review.

                4. I developed my action research plan.

For the first assignment of this class, I identified what my action research topic was and created an outline that I later used to create my action plan. My outline can be found here                                   .

After I chose my action research idea, I had to write a literature review. A literature review is an excellent way to show what you know and have learned through your research on various things. I am currently researching book clubs in a blended learning setting and how they can increase literacy comprehension. Here is the literature review that I revised from a previous class to fit my new action research study...
