how I contributed to my learning

This self-reflection has been one of the most difficult parts of this coursework. It's very hard for me to look back at myself and self-assess diplomatically. I am always way too hard on myself and I have a hard time finding ways I succeed, and it's especially difficult to give myself a grade. I don't want to give a grade too high because I know there are ways I can improve. Then again, I don't want to score myself too low and short change myself.

After careful consideration, I believe that I deserve a 93 out of 100 for the EDLD 5303 course and a 46 out of 50 for the EDLD 5305 course.

Here is how I justify the grades I gave myself.

My key contributions:

  • How I can improve (I like to start with this)... First of all, I will most definitely need to try harder to complete my discussion posts earlier in the coursework. Almost every week, I would go to the discussion board, read the instructions, and watch the videos or read the articles that were posted. Unfortunately, I would usually get distracted or run out of time before I was able to post a response to myself or another student. I did, however, go back and re-watch or re-read before I completed my discussion post. Another thing I need to improve on is my own time management. This will be the 3rd degree that I have completed online, and this is, by far, the most challenging (yet rewarding) I have done yet. For my other degrees, I was told what to read, when to read it, when to respond to it, when to post things, and how often to post them. This degree I am working towards now makes me think, it forces me to be in charge of my own learning... which is exactly what I will be asking my students to do. I also need to force myself to go back, reflect on the feedback given by Dr. H. on my assignments, and fix my assignments in a more timely manner as to not forget the feedback and feedforward I was given.

  • Things I feel confident I did well (although I can ALWAYS improve)... I watched every video and read every article that was posted in the modules or the discussions boards at least once, often more than once. I always respond to my peers in a positive, respectful, and diplomatic way. I worked very hard and devoted a lot of time on my eportfolio.

Other key contributions...

  • I collaborated with 2 different groups on a daily basis. I was part of a larger group of students through Groupme, some of whom I feel that I became close with. There are 17 members in the group, however, there are a handful of us (me, Karin, Jas, Andrea, Andrei, Kelven, Ileana, Kim, Pedro, Rachel, and Stephen) that collaborated almost daily (even on the weekends), provided feedback to each other, and sometimes we were just there to lend an ear and support each other. My smaller collaboration group was based on our innovation ideas. Kelven Wilson (https://kelvenwilson.wordpress.com/2021/12/10/contribution-to-learning-and-reflection/)and Andrei Dobrodumov (https://dobrodumov.wixsite.com/website). The three of us shared some resources, collaborated about blended learning in our classrooms, and were there to help when the others needed us.

  • As stated earlier in this blog post, I read all of the required readings and watched all of the videos and met all of the deadlines (except for maybe the video not being complete by midnight tonight).

  • I spent many many hours creating my eportfolio, tweaking it, redoing it, playing around with it, re-arranging it, and stressing over it. I am, however, very pleased with it!

Supporting Contributions...

  • I was definitely a leading voice in my larger collaboration group as well as in my smaller group, and I orally participated in most of the zoom meetings for both EDLD 5303 as well as EDLD 5305.

  • I participated in all discussion posts and collaboration discussions outside of class.

  • I posted some of my discussion posts early in the class. I posted in most others somewhat early enough for my peers to respond.

  • I feel comfortable with my use of APA in my posts and assignments.

  • I tried to add depth and higher order thinking to all of my discussion posts.

  • I joined all but 2 zooms (one of which I had a school function I had to go to and one my internet was not cooperating).

For this first 8 weeks of my ADL program, I have been enrolled in the accelerated program. I feel confident in the work that I was able to complete while taking both classes at once. I am, however, going to go to a one class at a time program until summer. My fellow collaborators Kelven and Rachel are also planning on doing this along with me. It feels good that I will not be the only one that will only be doing one class at a time. We all three feel that we want to be able to focus more on one class instead of having to devote time to two classes.

I am so proud of myself and my peers for not only making it through these first courses, but I really think we killed it!!!
