I have to say that I was actually fascinated when I watched the video! Then, as per the assignment, I did listen to it without watching it. I was quite surprised that a lot of the things they were saying about this innovative way of teaching in the 40's is very similar to what they are saying today. Kids absolutely do best by doing instead of just being told how to do. We want children to be prepared for their future, to be able to succeed in life. Not everything is the same, but the verbage is very similar. The biggest differences are the specific skills we are teaching them now that they will need to succeed. In the 40's they taught them more about things such as working in stores. making things with your hands, and doing things such as that. These days, there are classes that teach those things, but we have added another component that has many pieces to it, technology. The video also talked about how they want children to work cooperatively with one another. This is what we now call collaboration, which is a BIG component of how we teach now.
