Growth Mindset

crissmanc

I can't tell you how many times I have started something, it got too difficult for me, and I gave up. I have lost interest or gotten frustrated in things that have been a challenge. I didn't have a growth mindset. I had a closed mind and a fixed mindset... I guess I got that from my mother. She's a very closed minded person- she's not AT ALL open to new things or new ways of thinking. She's still very old school on so many things, and that keeps her from having an open mind and a growth mindset. I have had to overcome the ideas that I grew up with ti open myself to accept the growth mindset ways.

Fast forward to my first teaching job... I got a job at a VERY innovative elementary campus. My principal had all of us teachers doing PD after PD on Alan November, and on Growth Mindset. We were very tech rich and were actually required to embrace it all. Needless to say, having a growth mindset was something I had to embrace. It helped me a lot in my very first year of teaching. It was a hard year and I am not sure I would have made it if I had not changed my mindset.
