As I reflect on my learning this time.....

crissmanc

I am usually very critical of myself. I struggle with giving myself credit for things I do. I know that there are always many ways that I can improve, but I have a hard time praising my own accomplishments. I do have to say that I feel better about the way I have navigated my classes (5304 and 5302) this time. After thinking long and hard and critiquing myself, I feel confident in the grade I would give myself for both classes. I believe that I would give myself a 95 out of 100 for both 5302 and a 95 out of 100 for 5304 as well.

Here is how I justify the grades I gave myself.

My key contributions:

  • Things I feel confident I did well (although I can ALWAYS improve)... I am actually very proud of myself for completing my own discussion posts for 5304 and replying to my classmates. I spent a lot of time reading many of their posts and deciding which ones I wanted to respond to. For 5304, when I received feedback or feedforward prior to submitting my assignments, I took the advice of my professor. As a result, I succeeded in completing my assignments and exceeding my own expectations. I completed all assignments for both classes on time. The only one that I have not revised is the 4DX (which I will be revising tomorrow). I also watched every video (usually more than once) and completed all of the readings that were posted and assigned.

  • Ways I can improve... I will need to try harder to complete my discussion posts earlier in the coursework when they are not due on specific days. I have been very good about watching the videos for the discussions for 5302, but I would then get sidetracked and forget to complete my own discussion post. As a result, I had to do the work the very last week of the class. Another thing I need to improve on is my bad habit of procrastination. This term, I have been doing better at starting my work during the week, but I know that I can do an even better job at disciplining myself to do more work during the week. That way I am not spending all day Sunday on my assignments and discussion post replies.

Other key contributions...

  • Again for this term, I collaborated with 2 different groups on a daily basis. I have been part of a larger group of students through Groupme, some of whom I feel that I became close with. There are now 19 members in the group, however, there are a handful of us (me, Karin, Jas, Andrea, Andrei, Kelven, Ileana, Kim, Pedro, Rachel, Daniel, and Stephen) that collaborated almost daily (even on the weekends), provided feedback to each other, and sometimes we were just there to lend an ear and support each other. My smaller collaboration group was based on our innovation idea of blended learning. Kelven Wilson (https://kelvenwilson.wordpress.com/2021/12/10/contribution-to-learning-and-reflection/) and Andrei Dobrodumov (https://dobrodumov.wixsite.com/website) are the two others in a small group with me. The three of us shared resources, collaborated about blended learning in our classrooms, gave each other feedback on assignments, and gave each other emotional support and encouragement.

  • As I mentioned earlier in this blog, I watched every video (usually more than once) for both 5302 and 5304. I also read all of the books and other required readings.

  • I spent hours adding all of the components and pages to my eportfolio, as well as making other parts of it better.

  • I attended zoom meetings. If I was unable to attend, I collaborated with my groups to see what I missed and let them know if I was not attending. If I missed meetings, I would go to the announcements page the very next day and watch the recordings as they became available.

Supporting Contributions...

  • I participated in every discussion post and responded to other posts that my fellow classmates made.

  • I had collaborative conversations with my fellow classmates on many of the various ideas we learned about in 5302 and 5304 through Groupme.

  • I used APA citations and references when completing discussion posts and assignments and I feel very comfortable and confident in using it.

  • I led discussions at times with my teams.

I am enrolled in the accelerated program. Prior to this term beginning, I emailed Dr. H. to ask his opinion of taking 2 classes at a time for the remainder of the degree. He informed me that taking 5302 and 5304 together had potential to be overwhelming. I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I wanted to challenge myself. I am so very happy that I did. All of my closest classmates are all doing the accelerated and I feel that I can do this with them all by my side. I can’t wait to keep going with my groups and I am excited that we all get to walk together at the end of the year.

I honestly feel good about taking these two specific classes at the same time because they basically go hand in hand. The things I learned about having a growth mindset in 5302 helped me when I started to feel overwhelmed with all of the information in 5304. Crucial conversations and 4DX were a bit challenging for me to read and understand at first. I started to feel that I was going to fail and would have to retake the class, until I reminded myself of growth mindset. I rewatched some of the videos for encouragement. It worked! I had to remind myself that I needed to challenge myself, work hard, and embrace what comes my way.

I am very glad that I decided to do both classes together! The classes are perfect complements to each other.
